Abstract

A method for the filtering of the phase of fringe pattern to avoid the image corruption effect during the application of the unwrapping process is described. An algorithm is developed using a combination of sine/cosine average filtering with masking filtering techniques, taking as a weighting function of the masks the number of discontinuities by pixels which allows to preserve and intensify the borders of phase fringes of the object and to remove the isolated discontinuities and false phase fringes. The algorithm is tested using phase images obtained by the two wave length contouring holographic method.
