Abstract

An alternative approach for the optimization of a financial cost functional associated to the predictive control problem of a Solar plant with an energy storage system is presented. A smooth continuous approximation of a non-linearity is used to obtain an explicit formulation of the functional, and the benefits of this approach are discussed. Through simulations, the flexibility of this approach to incorporate more complex battery models is illustrated, thus enlarging the financial benefits of the plant's operators.
