Abstract

This contribution is aimed to compare the electrochemical properties of chitosan-modified glassy carbon electrodes. Different modified electrodes were prepared by changing the composition of the starting chitosan solution and were electrochemically characterized by means of cyclic voltammetry. The permeability properties of the chitosan surface films for cationic (Ru(NH3) 63+) and anionic (Fe(CN)64-) species at different pH were tested. The electrochemical response was strongly pH dependent for both ionic species. The study proves that, by changing the chitosan solution used in the preparation procedure, a charge-based molecular recognition of ionic species is possible.
