Abstract
This study evaluated the resistence to corrosion of galvanized and painted galvanized (Duplex) steel in a marine environment using electrochemical and accelerated laboratory essays. The electrochemical measurements included open circuit potential, polarization curves, and potentiostatic polarization in 0.1M sodium chloride. The accelerated essays were carried out in a saline fog chamber and also using the Cebelcor method. The degree of corrosion attack of the material was observed by scanning electronic microscopy. The results show that the Duplex system presents a better behaviour against corrosion in chloride media than galvanized steel, increasing its useful life.
