Abstract

This study on the effect of salinity on vegetative and reproductive growth of tomatoes was carried out at the La Palma Experimental Station of the Faculty of Agronomy, Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile. Steiner's culture medium (electrical conductivity, EC = 2.5 mmho·cm-1) was adjusted to EC's of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 mmhos·cm-1 by addition of NaCl. EC's above 2.5 mmhos·cm-1 restrain vegetative growth and number and weight of fruits (yield), as well.
