Abstract

The influence of the grain size on the corrosion behaviour of an Al-1 % Mn alloy has been investigated in sodium chloride solution through the evaluation of corrosion, repassivation and pitting potentials respectively. Potentiodynamic polarization curves including scratched techniques were also employed. The attack morphology was analyzed by scanning electronic microscopy. Results show that corrosion parameters were not dependent on the alloy microstructure. Micrographies show that the pitting morphology is independent of the alloy grain size and that when the chloride concentration increases, localized attack also increases.
