Abstract

This paper analyzes the impact of axial-varying eccentricity on relevant performance indices of permanent magnet synchronous machine with modular stator core (MPMSMs) by means of 3-D finite element simulations. Two types of eccentricity, static and dynamic, are analyzed for a 24-slot 22-pole MPMSM oriented to fault-tolerance applications. The cogging torque and unbalanced radial forces that appear in the rotor structure are assessed. It was found that varying the eccentricity magnitude is followed by a proportional increase of radial force and a significant cogging torque rise. Also, depending on the eccentricity tilt, cogging torque can be severely affected.
