Abstract
The article proposes an interpretation of Vico's definition of "common sense" displayed in his Scienza Nuova. Vico understands it as "un giudizio senz'alcuna reflessione", implying a contradiction between both-judgement and reflection. Here it is suggested that his idea of wit clarifies this contradiction and shows its dependence to the relationship between man and God in the philosophy of the Neapolitan thinker.
