Abstract

In a neoliberal context like the Chilean society and with the objective of analyzing the effects of the massification, segmentation and fragmentation of higher education on the subjective well-being of professionals in the social sciences, and the possible existence of a broken professional promise, the present article shows some results of a case study with a quantitative approach, on the subjective well-being of those who make up a paradigmatic profession in this regard: social work. On the basis that subjective well-being has hedonic and cognitive components, it is concluded that the life satisfaction in the field of work, of these professionals and technicians is greater than that expressed by Chileans in general. However, the professionals declare lower levels of subjective well-being than the technicians of their area, being this extrapolated to other professions affected by the neoliberal reforms imposed by the civic-military dictatorship in the country, whose effects remain in force.
