Abstract
Interest in bacterial tank leaching of minerals has increased in the last few years, based on its low energy input and non-polluting nature. In this work, the agitation and power characteristics of a 100 mesh aerated mineral suspension were studied at pulp densities from 20 to 60%. Three types of agitators were tested at four agitation speeds and aeration rates in the range of 0 to 5. 6 l/min. A 1 to 6 agitation scale was developed and the minimum agitation speed was defined and determined. Agitation power was measured and the results were correlated by a Michel and Miller type equation. The specific power consumption was in the range of 0. 2 to 12 KW/m**3.
