Synthesis and characterization of alkoxycarbonylrhenium(III) complexes

Abstract

The reaction of the cationic complexes [(η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)3X]+ (X = Cl, Br and I) with alkoxide anions in alcohol or dichloromethane results in the formation of the alkoxycarbonylrhenium(III) complexes, trans-(η5-C5Me5)Re(CO)2(I)(COOR) (X = Cl and Br, R = Me and X = I, R = Me, Et and i-Pr). The trans orientation of the carbonyl groups in these complexes was assigned by IR spectroscopy.
