Abstract
The Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation is obtained from the funtional integral, Lagrangian, approach. As a toy model we used the QCD Lagrangian. This leads to a derivation of the effective Lagrangian for non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics and the heavy quarks effective field theory.
