Abstract

Concerning mathematics education, primary teachers initial education should encourage the acquisition of competences with respect mathematics teaching and learning, assuming that most of those related to the discipline will be learned. This objective is undermined by the numerous and serious gaps in student teachers' mathematical knowledge which impede them from getting engaging in specific pedagogical reasoning. Through an exploratory study with student teachers from the University of Huelva, we investigate the level of numerical competence they have.
