Dual-band textile patch antenna for GSM-WiFi bands using EVA-foam as substrate

Resumen

This paper presents the design of a double band patch antenna operating on the GSM-1900 and WiFi bands, using a conductive fabric and EVA-foam as substrate. The use of commercial EVA-foam as substrate is interesting because of its multiple applications on everyday life, mainly on wearables and accessories, and the interest to connect these wearables to networks. The permittivity of the EVA-foam was characterized with a quarter-wavelength open stub microstrip resonator, obtaining a good agreement between measurement and simulation. For the design of the antenna, simulations were done using the estimated permittivity, obtaining good results in terms of matching and radiation pattern for both bands. Measurements of the device were done, obtaining a good agreement with the simulation results.
