Resumen

Building interactive simulations with standard engineering software is normally a hard task for many non-programming instructors.Maybe the reason is that software for technical computing comes full of toolboxes for rapid-prototyping of engineering systems, but it frequently lacks tools to create interactive simulations. The paper introduces the interoperate approach, which aims to split the development of an interactive engineering simulation in two separate tasks. On the one hand, the interactive human interface is created by using specialized tools. On the other hand, the engineering simulation is built by using the preferred engineering software. The necessary API of the protocol to communicate both parts of the simulation is described in detail here, and some examples can be found at http://lab.dia.uned.es/rmatlab/
