The aim of this work is review various conceptualizations on academic talent and motivation for learning, and from them identify the theoretical perspectives that could contribute better to study the motivational factor in academically talented students in the school context. In this sense, our interest is focused on identifying motivational variables that contribute to the study of motivation-academic talent relationship, for a better identification of gifted students and as a contribution for understand the specific role of motivational factors in the development of academic talent.
